ABOUT US -
San Clemente, CA, USA is a coastal town where surfing and skateboarding go hand-in-hand. Surf and skate in our city have a rich history and it truly runs through the veins of the community. As first generation SC skaters are now bringing up second generation skaters, and new families are drawn to our community and its lifestyle, there has been a significant boost in the San Clemente skateboarding population.
San Clemente Skatepark Coalition (SCSC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit started in 2016 by several San Clemente skateboarding families who are passionate about the skateboarding community. Our mission is to improve and support skateboarding in San Clemente and to facilitate the creation of additional safe, legal skateboarding terrain within the city.
Our first goal is to light the existing skatepark so it may be utilized after dark as well as construct a skatepark expansion using the adjacent vacant lot. The city council has given SCSC their support and approval to raise funds to bring this primary goal to fruition. Future goals are to create additional, more centrally located skateparks as well as legal “skate zones” throughout the city.
Currently the only legal place to skateboard in the city of San Clemente is the 14,000-square-foot skatepark, which we have largely outgrown since its construction in 2000.This park is located on a large hill and is nestled on the boarder of the industrial park. This site has its benefits. It is set away from residents without concern for noise and has a sizable vacant lot adjacent to it, which is available for expansion.
In addition to this expansion project, there is an increasing urgency for our city to provide additional areas where San Clemente skaters who are not able to transport themselves to the existing skatepark can legally practice their craft. SCSC is working hand in hand with the city to encourage these projects and to advocate for the skate community.
Since our formation, we have seen our tight knit community come together for skateboarding. We are inspired by the unwavering support from a diverse collection of businesses and residents and are confident that we will succeed in creating new and exciting skate facilities for generations of San Clemente skaters.
